This past Women in the Woods was one of the best ever! No drama or trauma. Very mellow. The weather was perfect. The stars were bright. The waters were healing. The community we created for the weekend was kind and giving. Breitenbush and the surrounding old growth forest held us for the weekend and gave us the time and space to heal the fractured bits the world leaves us with.
Women in the Woods VIDEO
This year’s Women in the Woods was a stellar event. Our first legal lesbian wedding, karaoke, song circles, drumming, laugh yoga, great food, thunder, lightening, rain, conversations, no drama, hot water, steam, deer, dragonflies, talent and no talent show. And much more.
Favorite lines overheard:
Question: “I wonder what the names of the dragonflies are?” Response: “Seth, Marcia, John….”
“I can’t wait to leave and get more vegetables.” (Yes, she was serious.)
“Where would you like to sit? The bride’s side or the bride’s side?”
Next year’s Women in the Woods is Aug. 21, 22, 23, 2014. Register early.
With all that is happening in the world today, you need a long weekend with Women in the Woods. Share the joy, share the sadness and connect with your peeps. Get your registration in for 2013.
It’s PRIDE weekend. Festival noon to 6pm Saturday and Sunday, parade Sunday at 11 am. Women in the Woods has a booth space at P-1 parallel to Stark Street. Stop by, say hi, register for the event, hang out and talk to others about the fun you have at Women in the Woods every year and give us a break to go grab some food. Hope to see you.
The Talent Show at Darcelle’s was a blast Sunday. It was a love fest for Pam. So good to see her out and about. The event raised some much needed dollars for her. Great talent and Brenda and her crew did a great job. Thank you to everyone.
Now it is time to get your Women in the Woods registrations in. No time for procrastination. We need to know you are coming.
Sunday, June 2, 3 pm at Darcelle XV. Just like at Women in the Woods, except with an awesome stage, lighting and sound equipment. This is a benefit for Pam Monette presented by Women in the City. 50-50 raffle, baskets to auction, fun entertainment. Sliding Scale $10 to $30. Talent Show Flyer, June 2.
Just got word from Breitenbush about aggressive squirrels this year: marauding and attacking caches of food. You need to be vigilant about enclosed containers for any food you bring or your food will look like this.
Though it signals the end of summer, the time we relish and look forward to all year long is a mere 15 days away. It is a sold-out camp, there is tent space available in the meadow and there might be a bed in a cabin if you bribe a SWAT team member.
Things to remember:
- bring items for the exchange table—clothing, books, art, puzzles, etc.
- bring crafts to share or do with others
- bring your name tag from last year or make one for this year or we will have supplies so you can make one there
Next year’s dates: Aug. 22, 23, 24, 2013
